The Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless partners with three organizations to provide permanent supportive housing to formerly homeless singles and families with disabilities. Community Ministries of Rockville, Community Ministry of Montgomery County, and Stepping Stones Shelter provide the direct services to 40 individuals in 8 shared houses and 2 families in their own homes, while the Coalition coordinates and oversees the operations and finances.

This model provides a permanent housing option to clients who may be unable to maintain housing without supportive services and/or might not have the financial resources to rent or lease an apartment or house at market rates. In addition, for single adults relocating out of homelessness, a group living environment creates the community some individuals need for successful reintegration into society.

Services include:

  • Case management and counseling
  • Life skills training
  • Connection to medical care, vocational training, mental health and substance abuse services
  • Childcare and tutoring

The Hope Housing program began in 2002, addressing the growing number of homeless people who, for various reasons, are unable to live independently and require financial assistance and supportive services.
